Question 1 of 9

Let’s Set the Record Straight

Things you’ve probably heard — and the truth behind them.

MYTH

"You need to drink milk to make milk"

FACT

Nope. Your body makes breast milk from your blood supply, not from what you drink. Stay hydrated, but cow’s milk isn’t required.

MYTH

"Small breasts mean less milk"

FACT

Breast size has nothing to do with milk supply. Supply is about demand — the more baby feeds, the more you make.

MYTH

"If it hurts, that’s normal"

FACT

Some tenderness in the first days is common, but ongoing pain usually means something needs adjusting. Get help — you don’t have to push through.

MYTH

"You can’t breastfeed if you’re taking medication"

FACT

Most medications are compatible with breastfeeding. Check LactMed or e-Lactancia before stopping — and always ask a professional.

MYTH

"Formula moms failed"

FACT

Absolutely not. Fed is best. Every family’s journey is different, and choosing formula — for any reason — is a valid choice.

MYTH

"You should stop breastfeeding when baby gets teeth"

FACT

Teeth don’t mean it’s time to stop. Babies can breastfeed comfortably with teeth — and many do well into toddlerhood.

MYTH

"Pumping output = your supply"

FACT

A pump is never as efficient as a baby. Low pump output doesn’t mean low supply.

MYTH

"You need to ‘toughen up’ your nipples before birth"

FACT

Please don’t. Your body is already preparing. Nipple prep is a myth that can actually cause harm.
